Blow the trumpet in Zion, Consecrate a fast, Call a sacred assembly; Gather the people, Sanctify the congregation, Assemble the elders, Gather the children and nursing babes; Let the bridegroom go out from his chamber, And the bride from her dressing room. Let the priests, who minister to the LORD, Weep between the porch and the altar; Let them say, “Spare Your people, O LORD, And do not give Your heritage to reproach, That the nations should rule over them. Why should they say among the peoples, ‘Where is their God?’ ” THEN the LORD will be zealous for His land, And pity His people. (Joel 2:15-18 NKJV)
Christianity is a “team sport”. Much more like football than golf. I could type away for hours on that analogy. The one thing that I want everyone to get, however, is that as Christians we’re in this thing TOGETHER. God’s design is for us to pray together, eat together, worship together, laugh together, even deal with life’s difficulties TOGETHER.
This is why the enemy has presented so many things to DIVIDE us. Churches all over the world are divided by denominational barriers, racial barriers, economic barriers, and cultural barriers. We would of course expect those types of issues in the world, but at least weekly we are reminded of how divided we really are as the Church.
These divisions aren’t just between Churches…they’re IN Churches! This is why a corporate fast is such a blessing and so cleansing for the life of an individual Church. By fasting TOGETHER and praying daily TOGETHER, something supernatural happens in us as the Body of Jesus, and the barriers between us begin to break down. We become more vulnerable…but also more trusting. We become more humble…but also more available.
God is doing something really strong in the heart of Living Word. I heard it this morning in the prayers that were prayed at 7AM. I can tell something is shifting.
