We are finalizing the last 5 days of our fast by reading the book of James. Again, I am so proud of each of you for sticking this out for 21 days! Can you feel the Power?
“If anyone among you thinks he is religious, and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this one’s religion is useless.” (James 1:26 NKJV)
This Scripture assumes that ALL OF US need to bridle our tongues! It doesn’t insinuate that some believers have an issue and some don’t, but rather that we all need to pay attention to this!
1. A bridle is used to control the direction of a horse. When we bridle our tongues, we control the direction of our life. Anyone who refuses to bridle their tongue is out of control!
2. A person who doesn’t bridle their tongue deceives their own heart. The question is not, “Do I need to bridle my tongue/watch my words/control my attitude?”, but rather, “WHERE do I need to watch my words?” Any person who thinks they don’t need to pay attention to this has deceived themselves.
3. A person who doesn’t bridle their tongue is useless to God. Why is that? Because our words can negate any good that we have done with our actions.
So…how will we apply this today? What words will we change? What attitudes will we correct within ourselves? Fasting will most certainly help us with this because the “brat” in us has his own agenda, and he dictates that agenda with the words that you allow him to control!
Fasting says NO to the brat in us so that we can say YES to the Holy Spirit in us!
