Four more days to go on our 21 day Daniel fast! I am so grateful for every single one of you who is adding your “supply” to the Body in fasting and prayer! (See Eph. 4:16). I hope morning prayer, this blog site, the community of believers at LWFC, and the experiences you are having with God during your personal prayer times have been a significant source of encouragement to you.
“Blow the trumpet in Zion, Consecrate a fast, Call a sacred assembly; Gather the people, Sanctify the congregation, Assemble the elders, Gather the children and nursing babes; Let the bridegroom go out from his chamber, And the bride from her dressing room.” (Joel 2:15-16 NKJV)
This Scripture suggests a radical departure from “business as usual” during a fast. Sometimes we want to just change the way we eat for a few days, while holding to our normal routines. That, however, is not what a “consecrated fast” is. It’s a time we set aside to seek God and search our own hearts so that we can be truly changed on the inside, instead of just losing a few pounds on the outside. Have you gathered in corporate prayer as much as you should during this time? Set aside extra personal prayer time? Have you been introspective enough to change some things in the way you relate to God and to others?
Don’t waste a good spiritual fast on a few pounds, and less caffeine. This is the time to get serious with God!
