I am so proud of LWFC for making our 21 days of fasting and prayer a priority. I apologize for not blogging during the first part of the fast…my blog page wasn’t working, but it’s good now and I’m back. Because of the weather we haven’t been able to meet at the Church at 7AM to pray together, but we ARE tomorrow…so spread the word!
And just so you understand how we make calls like that during the week, we go along with the Wake County school system when it comes to inclement weather decisions. I don’t always agree with their decision to call off school, but by doing what they do, it eliminates confusion as to when our office is open and when we have special events. For example, if Wake County schools are closed, then we close also. If they are on a 2 hour delay, then so is our office. That just takes the guesswork out of these situations for you.
Weekends are another story. We make the call on Sunday mornings ourselves and post it on the website, the app site, Facebook, twitter, and on our phone message if we are closing. We don’t want anyone to risk their life or the lives of their family members on Sunday morning, but we only call off Church if absolutely necessary.
Some years ago, we had a weekend “snowstorm” (a “snowstorm” in North Carolina is nothing like a REAL snowstorm in the mountains of Virginia!) and we probably had 4-5″ of snow on the ground. The roads were white. I had called off services that morning, but drove over to the Church building just in case someone didn’t get the message and came anyway. On my way that morning, I passed a bar…and the parking lot was PACKED! People were trying to find a parking space but couldn’t there were SO many cars!
Then I felt really foolish! People can drive to a bar to get a drink…but we can’t get to the House Of God to Worship???!!! SO…it’s not that we don’t ever cancel services, but we don’t do it just because everyone else is. We make that decision carefully and prayerfully.
We have also found that if we need to call off services on Sunday morning, we can have a make up service on Monday or Tuesday night and many of you can/will come to that. We have done that twice in the last 2 years, and I loved it! Full House, great worship, and a great spirit in the House!
Finally…stop praying for snow on weekends!!! If you like snow like I do, pray for snow, but on Tuesday! Wednesday! Miss work if you need to, but let’s believe together that we don’t miss worship together!
