As soon as it starts getting cold, I stand at our back window looking at our backyard, saying, “I’m so ready for Spring!” Of course Connie tells me it’s not going to be Spring for several months…but I’m looking out over my backyard dreaming of Spring, shorts and flip flops. Just because I am ready for Spring, doesn’t make it Springtime…it’s not always the season you want it to be!
God is very much into timing. Timing is vital in the plan and purpose of God. God doesn’t just throw things against the wall to see if they stick, but has a plan that He laid out from the foundation of the Earth, and He can see the end of time from the beginning. Events don’t unfold for God, rather God sees them all at the same time. For us, we look at things in the future as they unfold for us but in the realm of God, the future is now! Everything is NOW…the past is now, the present is now and the future is now! So God, in His infinite wisdom, places things where He wants them. Once he puts events in place in the way HE sees everything together, God can move things around as He wills and it is still NOW in His World. It’s mind-boggling!
God placed Jesus’ Earthly Life, His Death, Burial and Resurrection strategically…at just the right time. Galatians 4:4 says, “When the fullness of time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman…to redeem those who were under the law, that we might receive the adoption as sons.” Jesus Christ came in the “fullness of time”. God does EVERYTHING strategically! He didn’t just come up with a random idea TO SEND HIS SON to see what would happen. He had a strategic plan and placed Jesus on this earth at just the right time for us!
We need to get used to thinking about the timing of God and how important timing is in our lives. Timing is the key to understanding everything we are dealing with in our lives. Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 tells us that there’s a time for everything. Not just big things…EVERYTHING! Everything has a season. Things don’t happen just randomly, but instead God has strategically placed things and there is a time for everything in heaven and in our lives. We need to learn to discern what time or season is in our life and our environment. Remember: it’s not always the season that we want it to be! In verse 2, we see there is a time to sow and a time to reap. Sometimes we are guilty of saying, “Ok God, I need my harvest and I need my harvest now!” But it isn’t always the season for harvest, sometimes it’s the season for SOWING. This is why it is important to get our giving and our receiving into a flow rather than giving in a knee-jerk reaction to circumstances. Farmers are in the flow – they sow, they take care of the harvest and they reap the harvest….then they repeat it each season. Farmers stay in the flow and it’s important that we understand the seasons of our lives and get into the flow of God!
